Confessions of a Pinaholic

My excuse for not posting anything in the first two months of the year: I discovered Pinterest. It's so horribly addicting. I find myself taking a quick look before I go to bed, and two hours later I find myself still on the website, with 6 hours to go before kids wake up for the day. My night time postings on this blog are just one of the many things that have been neglected due to my addiction.

I realized that two months of the year have gone by without a single post, and started feeling extremely guilty. This blog is kind of a family journal. My kids love reading the yearly blog book. I better not disappoint!

So what have we been up to the last few months? Lots of basketball. Nathan tried out for the bantam team. He didn't make the A team, and was told there would be no B team this year. So we signed him up for Jr. Jazz. After signing him up, he was invited to play on a B team. So he got a double dose. Tanner wanted to play Jr. Jazz as well, so we ended up with at least 3 games every Saturday. Tomorrow is our last 2 games. I won't know what to do with our Saturdays after that!

Calla Started Nursery on January 1st. Here she is, a happy little girl excited to go to church. Fast forward 2 months: We are now nursery teachers. Yes, she HATED it. She was totally traumatized by the whole thing. After crying so hard she threw up many different times, we decided we may as well volunteer to be nursery leaders, since we are in there all the time anyway. She got to the point where she heard the closing song and prayer in sacrament meeting, and immediately began to cry. Any stranger that dares to look at her now sets her off. A few quirky habits Calla has picked up: Eating candle wax. It smells great, so it must taste great too, right? She always goes for the Cherry Limeade candle. I put those candles in a drawer with a bunch of books blocking it, and she still finds a way in. Any time it has been too quiet for very long, I know she has shut the door to my bedroom, and is into the candle stash again.

Another quirky habit: She has decided that she can't take more than one bite out of anything. Argh.

Calla's February was pretty much just being sick. We took her in for a check-up at the beginning of the year. She insisted on wearing her boots, even though she needed to be undressed for her exam. She didn't care about being undressed down to the diaper, but those boots had to stay on.

She ended up getting really sick one day. She couldn't keep anything down. After about 5 days of this, she ended up in the hospital with an IV. We were told that a lot of the time kids bounce right back once they get the fluids in them. Calla didn't. She still couldn't keep anything down. After about 10 days she went to throwing up just a couple times a day. After 16 days of this, I took her back in to the doctor. After a bunch of tests, they discovered she was so backed up that she couldn't keep anything down (sorry for the embarrassment reading this when you're a little older Calla!) So they upped her medicine (she has had problems with this since the day she was born) by about 5 times the amount she is used to having, and the problem is all solved. No more throwing up! Our kids got to where they all had their jobs when the throw-up came. Nathan grabbed a chair for Calla to stand on by the sink. Tanner grabbed paper towels for cleaning up, and Anika searched the floor for anything to clean up. So glad that is all over!

At the beginning of January Anika brought a note home from school about a PTA Daddy/Daughter dance in February. She was SO excited. Every day she would ask how many more days till the dance. Every day when she saw Jon she would let out a silly giggle and go hug him and say "Daddy Daughter dance!" A month and a half later the day finally came. Most girls just put on a skirt. Anika had to wear her favorite princess dress. Jon dressed up in a suit and got a corsage for her to wear. Pretty cute.

The kids were totally looking forward to Valentines day. Not only did they get to stuff their bellies with all that candy from school, but we also had a fondue night planned--I prefer the term Anika uses "Fundu". Calla, feeling a bit better at this point (day 13 of the 16 throwing up days), had to join in the fun. Notice all the half eaten bits of food on her plate!

The kids had to sword fight over the perfect spot to dip their strawberries and marshmallows. With bellies full of sugar, topped with chocolate and more sugar, they all went to bed happy, and with just a little bit of chocolate on their hair and pajamas.

The latest event of the last 2 months was our new cousin/niece Oaklie. Josh and Jena's first girl. Then a few weeks later they moved her to Colorado. Punks!

Now that it is 1:30 in the morning, I better not let myself get on Pinterest or the kids will be up before I ever get to bed!
