Fall Break

This fall break we were planning on going to a National Park.  Jon was able to take time off for fall break for the first time since our kids started school.  But then he ended up having to work because he took the day off for Spanky's wedding.  And all the National Parks were closed because of the Government shutdown.  So we were left to do things around town.

Nathan is working on his Citizenship in the Nation merit badge with a neighbor.  They needed to visit the State Capitol, and an Historical monument.  I took advantage of the rainy first day of fall break, and took all the boys up to Salt Lake while my neighbor watched all the girls.

 The Historical monument we decided to visit was the Beehive house.  The boys were all really well behaved, so we stopped for some snacks on the way home.

When we got back, there was still time for some football in the rain.

 The next day was warm and sunny.  We were off to the zoo with Nana....except for Nathan.  I let him stay and play football with friends, for his sanity, and for ours.

Saturday was BYU's homecoming.  We had the entire day planned.  First off, the parade.

Calla loves the Y on the mountain.  Every time we drive to Provo she has to point it out.  We decided to give it a try and take her to hike it with the family.

She did pretty well, only needing to be carried at the end.  We took her mind off of the hike by having her and Anika sing songs on the way up.  But on the way back down she decided she was done.

We wanted to walk around the bookstore for a while.  On the way in, we found a new place in the Wilkinson center that Jon would have been most of his college life.  It was a kind of sports bar....but being BYU, it was more sodas and ice cream.  We also found a bronze Cozmo statue that the kids loved.

After the hike we had to head to the creamery.  The kids have been begging me to go to the creamery after every cross country race, since it is right across the street.  They weren't disappointed.

The girls stayed at Nana and Grandpa's, and we took the boys to the game.  At the end we went down to give all the players a high five.  As one player ran past, he looked at Tanner, stopped, took off his glove, and handed it to him.  He is so proud of that glove!  He now goes out to play football with Nathan (something that he has been refusing to do lately).  He claims the glove makes him catch so much better.  I offered to buy him one that fits for his birthday, but he says the one he has is better because "It was used by a real football player."

On Monday it was cold and rainy again, so we ended up our fall break going to the Legacy center to swim.  We didn't go out of town, but we did end up having lots of fun.
